OnePlus 16 launches in China with a 9,000mAh battery
OnePlus has launched the OnePlus 16 in China with a 9,000mAh battery, 185Hz display and no announced European or US release.
OnePlus has officially launched the OnePlus 16 in China with a huge 9,000mAh battery, 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The phone is not getting a global release, according to the launch details reported by GSMArena.1
What OnePlus 16 offers
The OnePlus 16 pairs its large battery with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platform and a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED display capable of reaching 185Hz in selected games, according to GSMArena’s report.1 OnePlus’s own product page also advertises a 185Hz display, a 200-megapixel camera and a battery designed to retain its health for five years.2
The camera system consists of a 200-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel 3x telephoto and a 50-megapixel ultrawide, while OnePlus’s official page presents the phone in white, peach and black finishes.12 The manufacturer’s launch material describes the design as “interstellar exploration” themed and lists ColorOS 17 as the software platform.2
China launch, no global version
The OnePlus 16 is currently exclusive to China. GSMArena reports that it sold more than 70,000 units in its first hour, although that sales figure comes from the phone’s launch coverage rather than a public global sales report.1 The regional limitation matters for UK and European readers: there is no announced route to buy this model officially in those markets, and the report says it will not launch in Europe or the United States.1
OnePlus’s Chinese product page confirms the handset and its headline hardware, but it does not announce a global release in the material checked for this story.2 Importing one would therefore mean dealing with regional availability, software differences and warranty support rather than simply ordering the phone through a local OnePlus store.
Our opinion
The OnePlus 16’s 9,000mAh battery is the headline, but the combination of a high-refresh display, 100W charging and a flagship Snapdragon platform is what makes the specification interesting. The China-only launch sharply limits its relevance as a UK buying option, though. Until OnePlus confirms a global model, this is best read as a showcase for the company’s battery and gaming ambitions rather than a phone most European readers can sensibly buy.
