OnePlus Ace 7 Pro camera revealed ahead of launch
OnePlus has confirmed a 200MP main camera and 3.5x optical zoom for the Ace 7 Pro ahead of its 29 October launch.
OnePlus has revealed the camera hardware headed for the Ace 7 Pro ahead of the phone's launch, confirming a 200MP main rear camera and a periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom.1
The camera announcement gives the Ace 7 Pro a clear headline feature before OnePlus formally unveils the phone later this week. The company has also shared wide-angle and zoom samples, offering an early look at what the handset's imaging system is intended to deliver rather than leaving the specification as a simple megapixel claim.1
The Ace 7 Pro is listed on OnePlus's official Chinese product shop, where the vendor's imagery shows the phone in three finishes and highlights its large rear camera arrangement.2 The listing also confirms the product identity and the scheduled 29 October launch event, although availability and pricing details in the listing are aimed at the Chinese market.2
The camera is only part of the Ace 7 Pro's pitch. The phone is expected to use a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, while the wider Ace 7 line is set to feature a BOE display using X4 luminescent material. OnePlus has also confirmed a system-wide 165Hz refresh rate, rising to 185Hz in supported games, and an in-house display chip called the Super Display Chip P4.1
Both the Ace 7 and Ace 7 Pro are currently available for pre-order in China, with a launch expected later this week. OnePlus has not announced equivalent UK or European availability in the sources checked for this report, so the camera reveal should not be read as confirmation of a wider release.12
Our opinion
The 200MP sensor is the attention-grabber, but the periscope camera may be the more meaningful upgrade for day-to-day photography. A 3.5x optical zoom gives the Ace 7 Pro a more useful reach than a headline megapixel count alone, particularly for portraits and distant subjects. The unanswered question is whether OnePlus can make the processing and consistency match the hardware; the company's early samples are promising evidence, but they are not a substitute for independent testing.
For now, the Ace 7 Pro looks like a performance-focused phone that is taking its camera system more seriously than the previous spec sheet might have suggested. More details should arrive at the launch event on 29 October.
