Motorola Signature 27 scores 173 in DxOMark camera test
Motorola’s new flagship scores 173 in DxOMark’s camera test, with strong portrait, zoom and video results but some long-range limitations.
The Motorola Signature 27 has scored 173 points in DxOMark’s camera test, earning the lab’s Gold Label and placing the phone near the top of its global camera ranking. The result makes Motorola’s new flagship one of the strongest camera phones DxOMark has tested this year, although it is a lab assessment rather than an iHeartGeek hands-on review.12
DxOMark describes the Signature 27 as balanced across photo, zoom and video. It found accurate exposure, pleasant colour rendering, reliable autofocus and strong portrait results, including an extended depth of field that can keep secondary subjects sharp. The dedicated 3x telephoto performs particularly well at medium and early long-range distances, while detail falls away at greater zoom levels.2
Video is another strong point in the test. DxOMark reports stable exposure, consistent colours and dependable autofocus, with smooth adaptation as lighting changes. It also notes that low-light movement can still introduce noise and motion blur, so the 173 score should not be read as a guarantee of perfect results in every situation.2
The phone’s rear camera system combines a 50MP main sensor with optical stabilisation, a 50MP ultrawide camera with a 122-degree field of view and a 200MP 3x periscope telephoto. Motorola says the handset also introduces a dedicated EVS Action Sensor, designed to detect changes in light and motion independently of the main camera system.13
Motorola’s official product page says the Signature 27 can record 4K Dolby Vision video at up to 60 frames per second on all rear cameras and 8K at up to 60 frames per second on the main and telephoto cameras. Its Super Zoom Pro mode reaches 100x using generative AI processing, though long-range zoom remains the area where DxOMark sees the clearest limitations.23
The score puts the phone one point ahead of the iPhone 18 Pro in DxOMark’s ranking, while Huawei’s Pura 80 Ultra remains higher on the table. That is useful context: Motorola has produced a highly competitive camera system, but one test score does not settle the wider flagship-phone debate.12
Our opinion
This is an encouraging result for Motorola because the score is supported by strengths across photo, portrait, zoom and video rather than a single headline trick. The sensible takeaway is that the Signature 27 deserves a place on the camera-phone shortlist. Buyers should still wait for independent battery, display, software and real-world camera comparisons before treating it as the definitive flagship choice.
