Motorola previews the Signature 27 with B&O audio

Motorola has given its next flagship a first look at Snapdragon Summit, confirming the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and the company’s first Audio by B&O tuning.

Motorola showed its next ultra-premium phone at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit on Tuesday, and it was careful to call the reveal a preview rather than a launch. The motorola signature 27 is the second generation of the signature family and the first to follow a new naming rule that takes the final two digits of the coming year. Motorola says the device is expected to reach markets worldwide in 2026, with the rest of the details to follow closer to availability.

What Motorola has confirmed

The headline part is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, the top tier of the chip family Qualcomm announced the same day. Motorola says six antennas work together for faster downloads to feed cloud AI apps, and that sustained performance is handled by ArcticMesh, a cooling stack combining a diamond-infused thermal gel, liquid metal, copper mesh and a redesigned 3D vapour chamber that is 40% larger than the previous generation. Buyers are promised seven OS upgrades and up to seven years of security updates from the global launch date, with Motorola’s own caveat that these vary by market, network and model.

Cameras, audio and Gemini

The camera system pairs a 50MP Sony LYTIA 910 main sensor with a 200MP periscope telephoto, and adds a Video Enhancement Engine that Motorola says reads a scene before and during recording to adjust colour in real time. Qualcomm image stabilisation works alongside 3.5 degrees of optical stabilisation in the hardware. Audio is the sharper differentiator: this is Motorola’s first phone with Audio by B&O, the first product of the multi-year Bang & Olufsen partnership announced the day before. On the software side Motorola leans on Google Gemini, including Gemini Omni for turning photos and footage into finished video and Lyria for generated music.

Design and finishes

The frame is aluminium with contoured edges and the camera housing mixes ceramic with brushed aluminium. Two colours are confirmed, both from Pantone: Coal Smoke in a woven Tactical Weave finish and Capulet Olive in a brushed, textile-inspired one.

What is still missing

Almost everything a buyer needs. There is no price, no battery or display specification, no release date beyond the 2026 window and no word on which countries get the phone first, or whether the 200MP periscope reaches all of them. Motorola’s own fine print already warns that features vary by market, network and model, which is the standard hedge on a device whose camera system it describes as a demonstration. Read this as a specification preview attached to a chip launch rather than a phone anyone can plan around yet.

Our opinion

The interesting part of the signature 27 is not the silicon, which will appear in a dozen handsets within weeks, but the badge on the back. Motorola has spent years winning on price while losing the argument about whether it belongs in the same conversation as Samsung and Google at the top of the market, and its answer here is to borrow audio credibility from a Danish luxury brand. In a category where almost every flagship now carries a 200MP sensor and an AI video tool, that is at least a difference you can hear. The more consequential promise is seven years of updates, which only counts for something if it reaches the mid-range phones most people actually buy, and this is the second time in two days that Motorola has asked to be judged on ambition rather than on a shipping product.
