Apple expands Siri AI to five more languages in iOS 27.2
Apple's 27.2 updates expand Siri AI to five more languages, while the beta remains unavailable on iPhone and iPad in the EU.
Apple has expanded Siri AI to five more languages with the 27.2 software updates, although the feature remains unavailable in the European Union on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The rollout covers French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, according to Apple's own announcement. 1
The update is broader than a language-pack refresh. Apple describes Siri AI as a more conversational assistant built on Apple Intelligence, with the ability to use personal context from messages, emails and photos. It can also carry out more system-wide actions, including drafting an email or editing and sharing a group of photos. 1
What iOS 27.2 adds
On supported iPhone models, the 27.2 release also adds conversation recall, allowing Siri AI to refer back to earlier exchanges. Siri can draw on more granular sources of information, including photos sent in Messages, people listed on Calendar invitations and voicemails. Users can also exclude individual apps from Siri, Search and suggestions, while granular text selection makes it possible to copy part of a response rather than the whole answer. 2
The new language support is available across Apple's 27.2 software family. Apple says Siri AI is in beta on iOS 27.2, iPadOS 27.2, macOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2, and requires a device that supports Apple Intelligence. The feature is currently offered in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, with traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese promised by the end of the year. 1
The wider iOS 27.2 release is not limited to Siri. Apple has also added tools such as caption and comment editing in Shared Albums, contextual suggestions in Messages and support for Google's SynthID watermarking system in Photos and Image Playground. The iPhone Duo receives additional features including Apple Pencil support and Edge Light, while Apple's other hardware platforms receive their own combination of Siri improvements, fixes and security changes. 2
The EU limitation matters
Apple's launch is not global in practice. Its availability notes say Siri AI is currently unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, even though the company says it is working with the EU on a path forward. That means users in Britain may see a different situation from users in member states, while feature access can still vary by device, language and region.
Apple also warns that some Apple Intelligence functions rely on server-side models and are subject to daily usage limits. The company says those limits can vary with the feature, request complexity, system demand and policy. In other words, the 27.2 update expands access, but it does not turn every Apple device into an unrestricted Siri AI terminal.
Our opinion
Adding five languages is useful progress, particularly for people who already use Apple devices in multilingual households. The more important change is the attempt to make Siri understand context across the apps where information already lives. That could make the assistant feel less like a voice-controlled search box and more like a practical system tool.
The beta label, regional restrictions and usage limits are the less glamorous part of the announcement, but they are the details users will notice first. Apple has made Siri AI available to more people, yet the experience still depends heavily on where you live, which device you own and how much of the service Apple is willing to provide each day.
