iOS 27.2 brings four-way sports Multiview to iPhone
iOS 27.2 brings Apple's four-way sports Multiview feature to iPhone, although it remains tied to eligible Apple TV events.
iOS 27.2 adds Multiview to the iPhone, letting viewers watch up to four live sports streams at once on compatible Apple TV sports events. The feature was previously available on Apple TV 4K and Vision Pro, but this update brings the split-screen option to Apple's phones for the first time, according to MacRumors.1
How iPhone Multiview works
Multiview is tied to sports included with an Apple TV subscription. The supported examples listed in the report are Major League Soccer, Formula 1 in the United States and Friday Night Baseball doubleheaders during the Major League Baseball season.1
For Formula 1, viewers can choose a preset team Multiview for live events or build a custom view from several feeds. Those feeds can include onboard cameras and track maps, so the feature is aimed at fans who want more than the main broadcast on screen. The four-way layout is also consistent with the maximum number of sports streams supported by Apple TV 4K.1
The iPhone version arrives as part of iOS 27.2, Apple's first major update to iOS 27. The same update includes other changes, but Multiview is the feature that most directly changes how the phone can be used during a live match or race. It turns an iPhone into a compact scoreboard, although the size of the display will make the detail on individual feeds harder to follow than it is on a television.1
The feature is not a general-purpose way to combine any four video apps. It is limited to eligible live sports available through Apple TV, and the precise events available will depend on Apple's rights agreements and the sports season. That makes the rollout useful for existing Apple TV subscribers, but less of a reason on its own to buy an iPhone or change streaming services.
What iPhone owners need to know
MacRumors reports that iOS 27.2 has been released, so eligible users can install the update through the iPhone's software-update settings. The report does not say that every iPhone model supports the feature, and Apple TV's sports catalogue remains the practical limit on what can be watched.1
Our opinion
Multiview makes more sense on a television than on a phone, but it is still a neat upgrade for people watching while travelling or keeping an eye on several events away from the sofa. Formula 1 is the clearest use case: onboard footage, timing information and the main race feed can all matter at once. Four feeds on an iPhone will be cramped, though, and Apple TV's limited sports rights mean this is a useful extra rather than a streaming revolution. Its value will come down to whether the events you actually watch are included.
