Apple may be planning a larger HomeView with a rotating 9-inch display

A report claims Apple is exploring a 9-inch HomeView with a 360-degree robotic arm, but the larger smart-home hub remains unconfirmed.

Apple may be planning a larger, more ambitious version of its new HomeView smart home hub, with a 9-inch display mounted on a robotic arm that can rotate through 360 degrees, according to Bloomberg reporting cited by MacRumors.1

The device has not been announced, and “HomeView Max”, “HomeView Ultra” and “HomeView 360” are speculative names rather than confirmed Apple branding. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reportedly expects the product to arrive in 2027 or 2028, putting it well beyond the launch window of the current HomeView.1

Apple announced the first HomeView on October 13. The released model has a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, a speaker base and a tilting hinge, with Siri AI at the centre of its smart-home and entertainment features.2 Apple’s official video shows the device as a shared household screen for photos, messages, music, video calls and home controls.3

A larger screen on a motorised arm would give Apple more room to show information at a glance while allowing the display to face different parts of a room. It would also make the product more visibly distinct from an iPad on a stand, although the practical benefit of a full 360-degree rotation is still unclear.

The report does not provide a final design, price or launch date. It also does not establish whether the larger HomeView would replace the 7-inch model or sit above it as a premium option. Apple has not commented on the rumour.

For now, the confirmed product is the 7-inch HomeView, which costs $299 and launches on November 13. The reported larger model is best understood as a possible future branch of Apple’s new home-hub strategy, not an imminent product announcement.

Our opinion

A rotating display could make HomeView more useful in a shared room, but it also risks turning a simple smart-home controller into an expensive piece of furniture. Until Apple demonstrates why the arm is better than a cheap movable stand, the intriguing part of this rumour is the screen size — not the novelty of making the whole device spin.
