ANBERNIC’s RG 55G1 looks like a Switch Lite — but it cannot emulate Switch games

ANBERNIC’s RG 55G1 is an Android gaming handheld with an unmistakable Nintendo Switch Lite influence, a 1080p display and enough cooling to make the company’s emulation ambitions sound serious. It also comes with one important asterisk: this is not a Switch emulator, and the design does not change that.

What’s actually going on: Android Authority reports a recommended price of $149.99 for the 4GB/64GB model and $174.99 for the 8GB/128GB version. ANBERNIC is offering a $10 early discount on each model for the first three days, bringing the reported prices to $139.99 and $164.99.

ANBERNIC’s official product page lists a 5.5-inch, 1,920×1,080 Incell IPS display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 processor, Android 14, a 6,000mAh battery and 18W wired charging. The handheld also includes Hall-effect controls and is advertised as supporting Android games and more than 20 types of emulators.

There is a small availability wrinkle. Android Authority describes the RG 55G1 as launching, while ANBERNIC’s own page has presented the product as coming soon and has shown different variant pricing and availability. The official store currently lists some configurations in stock, but UK and EU pricing, VAT and delivery timing remain unverified.

Why you should care: the RG 55G1 is aimed at people who want a larger, faster Android handheld without paying premium-console money. Its 16:9 1080p screen should suit Android games and sixth-generation systems better than the tiny displays on many budget emulators, but the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 is still a lower-end mobile chip. More demanding games will depend heavily on emulator optimisation and settings.

Our opinion

The RG 55G1 looks interesting at the early price, especially if the 1080p screen and full-sized controls are your priorities. Just do not confuse Switch-shaped with Switch-capable: Nintendo’s console remains completely outside this handheld’s emulation remit. Wait until stock, regional pricing and real-world performance settle before ordering one from the far side of the internet.
