Spotify's Music Quiz rolls out to 11 countries with 2,000 artists

Spotify is taking its Music Quiz beyond a single-artist experiment, rolling the trivia feature out to Premium listeners in 11 countries with quizzes covering more than 2,000 artists.

Spotify's Music Quiz is no longer a one-artist experiment. After a BTS quiz earlier this year, the feature is now rolling out in 11 countries with quizzes covering more than 2,000 artists, the company said on 6 October.

How a round works

Play a track from a participating artist, open the Now Playing view and scroll down to the Music Quiz card. From there the questions mix music trivia, album-cover reveals and name-that-song rounds built from audio previews, drawing on an artist's catalogue, career milestones and defining moments. Finish the round, see how you scored, then share the result and challenge your friends to beat it.

Eleven countries, Premium, 18 and over

Music Quiz is rolling out to Premium listeners aged 18 and over in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India, Nigeria, South Africa and Indonesia. Quizzes for selected artists are in English at launch, with more artists, languages and markets to follow. Spotify is rolling the feature out gradually, so it may not appear for every artist or every listener straight away.

Our opinion

Spotify has found the right shape for a quiz here. Asking people about the artists they already stream turns a listening session into a hook, and rolling out 2,000 artists across only 11 markets is a sensible way to learn what actually gets shared before the feature goes everywhere. The risk is sameness: an identical trivia format across every artist wears thin quickly, and the fan bases this is aimed at will notice within days if the questions are recycled from sleeve notes. Keep the catalogue deep and the questions honest, and this is one of the more genuinely useful things Spotify has shipped for Premium lately.
