Electron's 96th flight lifts Synspective's 12th radar satellite
Rocket Lab's Electron has put Synspective's 12th StriX radar satellite into a 572 km orbit on its 96th flight, the company's 17th launch of 2026.

Rocket Lab has flown its 96th Electron mission, sending Synspective's 12th StriX radar satellite straight into a 572 km orbit from the company's Launch Complex 1 on the Mahia Peninsula in New Zealand.
What the mission actually did
The mission, named 'Owl By The Dozen', lifted off at 3:22pm NZST on 19 September 2026. Rocket Lab says Electron's Kick Stage placed the StriX satellite into its exact 572 km low Earth orbit rather than a drop-off orbit, which stretches the spacecraft's working lifetime and lets Synspective slot it straight into its synthetic aperture radar constellation.
Why the 96th flight matters
The launch is Electron's 17th of 2026 and the latest in a run that has made the small-lift rocket the busiest in its class. Rocket Lab says it still holds a 100% mission success record across its multi-year partnership with Synspective, and that 15 further dedicated Electron missions are manifested through the end of the decade to finish that constellation. Electron remains the company's workhorse while the larger, reusable Neutron continues its test campaign.
A cadence nobody else in small lift can match
Seventeen launches inside nine months is the number to sit with. Constellations are built in batches, and the operators paying for them care less about a single spectacular flight than about a launch provider that turns up on schedule, stacks satellites into precise orbits and does it again three weeks later. Electron is doing that while most of its competitors are still promising it.

Electron has quietly become the most dependable small rocket in the business, and the Synspective partnership is the proof: 12 satellites, no failures, a decade of missions still booked. The interesting tension now is inside Rocket Lab itself. Every Electron success sharpens the question of whether Neutron can inherit that reliability at a size that actually threatens the medium-lift market — because a perfect small rocket is a wonderful business, but a reusable medium-lift one is a different company entirely.
