Redmi K100 gets 50MP camera and ultrasonic fingerprint reader
Redmi has confirmed a 50MP main camera, IP68 protection and an ultrasonic fingerprint reader for the K100 before its China launch.
Redmi has confirmed more of the K100’s hardware ahead of the phone’s launch in China on 26 October. The standard model will pair a 50-megapixel main camera with an IP68 rating and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, according to details reported by GSMArena from Redmi’s official Weibo announcements. 1
The main camera will use a Light and Shadow Hunter 800 sensor with a 1/1.55-inch sensor size and an f/1.68 aperture. Redmi’s published specifications also point to a dual-rear-camera setup, although the company has not yet provided a full specification list in the material checked for this report. 1
Redmi has separately confirmed symmetrical dual speakers, seven antennas and an 0815 X-axis linear motor. Those features suggest the K100 is being positioned as a performance-focused phone rather than simply a large-battery device. The official Redmi announcement says the standard edition is intended to offer gaming performance comparable with the Pro flagships while retaining a more straightforward configuration. 1
Battery life remains one of the K100’s headline features. Earlier launch information cited by GSMArena says the phone will carry a 10,000mAh battery with support for 100W wired charging, alongside a 6.83-inch AMOLED display. The phone will be offered in three colours, including a new Firefly Green finish, and pre-orders are already open through Xiaomi’s official Chinese website. 1
The K100 will sit below the Redmi K100 Pro and K100 Pro Max, which were unveiled in August. The standard model therefore looks less like a replacement for those phones and more like an attempt to bring a similarly oversized battery and gaming-oriented feature set to a lower tier. Redmi’s official campaign material describes it as a new baseline for the flagship range, but pricing and complete availability details remain tied to the Chinese launch for now. 2
Our opinion
The Redmi K100’s most interesting combination is not one isolated specification. It is the way Redmi is stacking a huge battery, fast charging, a relatively large display and gaming-focused hardware with features normally used to make a phone feel more premium, such as an ultrasonic fingerprint reader and IP68 protection. The 50-megapixel camera may not be the headline that sells the phone on its own, but the sensor size and aperture suggest Redmi is at least trying to avoid treating the camera as an afterthought.
The important caveat is availability. Redmi has confirmed the phone for China, but the material checked for this report does not establish a wider launch date or international pricing. Until those details arrive, the K100 is best understood as a China-first announcement rather than a global product release. 12
