Razer’s Clio X puts rear surround speakers in your gaming-chair headrest

Razer’s Clio X is a wireless speaker cushion designed to put rear-channel audio directly behind your head. It is an attempt to make surround sound less dependent on a headset, a room full of speakers or the neighbour’s willingness to tolerate explosions at midnight.

What’s actually going on

TechPowerUp reports that the Clio X uses an integrated near-field design with dual 38mm full-range drivers and 55mm passive radiators angled towards the listener, powered by THX Spatial Audio with acoustic widening modes. It connects through Razer’s HyperSpeed 2.4GHz wireless and can run for up to 40 hours from any USB-C PD 2.0 power bank, which is not included. A built-in USB-C cable stores inside the rear cushion pouch, and an adjustable 30–65cm nylon strap fits most high-back gaming and office chairs. It can be used standalone or paired with an existing soundbar or 2.0/2.1 system in Surround Mode. It debuted at PAX West 2026, which ran from 4 to 7 September.

Why you should care

The idea could help headset-weary players get a wider soundstage without filling a room with speakers or wearing clamp-shaped headphones all evening. The open question is whether a single cushion behind the head can create convincing positional audio rather than a vague wash of sound.

Our opinion

Clever accessory, not an automatic upgrade. It makes most sense for players with compatible high-back chairs, but pricing and independent listening tests will decide whether it beats a good headset.
