IFA 2026: Nelko Norve turns an instant camera into a pocket-sized creative printer

Instant cameras have spent years turning ordinary photos into physical keepsakes. Nelko’s Norve wants to take that idea further by turning the camera into a tiny creative workshop, combining an instant camera, a wireless photo printer and a stack of colourful media options in one portable device.

Shown at IFA 2026, the Nelko Norve is designed to capture, edit and print images from the same compact camera. Nelko says the product has won a Red Dot Award, while its launch page positions it as a way to create photos, stickers, magnets and creative transfers rather than simply printing another standard rectangle.

What’s actually going on

Norve offers three main ways to create. Users can take a photo and print it immediately, connect a smartphone wirelessly and print images from their gallery, or use the Nelko app to edit photos before printing.

The app includes what Nelko calls a Digital Darkroom, with vintage-inspired filters, classic timestamps and developing-style animations intended to recreate some of the charm of analogue photography without requiring anyone to wait for actual chemicals to do their thing.

The camera connects to iPhone and Android devices through Bluetooth. Nelko says it supports full-colour prints and more than 100 styles of photo paper and creative media, including stickers, magnets, transparent paper, double-sided glossy paper and transfer materials.

The Norve display at IFA also listed a 1,100mAh battery, 600 dpi resolution and a 2MP camera. Its product card claimed a cartridge yield of up to 80 sheets, with fast-mode printing listed at 62 seconds per sheet and photo-mode printing at 107 seconds per sheet. Those figures were read from the exhibition product card and should be confirmed against final retail documentation.

Nelko lists a Super Early Bird price starting at US$69. That appears to be an introductory reservation or campaign price rather than a confirmed standard retail price. European pricing, refill costs and the final availability of each media type remain to be confirmed.

Why you should care

The ability to print on different materials is genuinely interesting because it opens up far more possibilities than another pocket photo printer. A snapshot can become a sticker for a notebook, a small magnet for the fridge or a transfer for a creative project. That makes Norve less about printing photos and more about turning digital memories into little physical objects.

The catch is the consumable system. If Norve relies on small ink or print cartridges, those cartridges could become a meaningful source of e-waste over time. The environmental impact will depend on cartridge capacity, how recyclable the components are, whether refills are widely available and how much packaging each media type requires.

Our opinion

Norve’s multi-material printing is the feature that makes it stand out. Being able to print on whatever material suits the project could turn a simple instant camera into a surprisingly versatile creative tool, particularly for families, scrapbookers and anyone who enjoys making physical things.

However, the small cartridges are a legitimate concern. A clever little printer is less appealing if it produces a steady stream of awkward plastic waste every time users want another handful of stickers. Nelko needs to be transparent about cartridge recycling, print yields, refill pricing and long-term availability before we can decide whether Norve is a genuinely sustainable creative accessory or just another gadget with an expensive consumable habit.

For now, the idea is promising. Norve could make printed memories more playful — provided the refills do not become the least environmentally friendly part of the experience.
