IFA 2026: Ascentiz brings modular H and K exoskeleton modules to Berlin

Ascentiz’s modular exoskeleton platform lets industrial and everyday users choose the hip or knee support they need, and our IFA hands-on suggests the concept is more comfortable than it looks.

IFA 2026: Ascentiz is bringing a modular exoskeleton platform to Berlin, pairing a shared Exo-Belt with interchangeable hip and knee assistance modules. The idea is refreshingly simple: industrial and everyday users can choose the support they actually need rather than paying for one fixed full-leg system.

Ascentiz-H focuses on hip propulsion for walking, climbing, running and faster-paced movement. Ascentiz-K adds what the company calls Adaptive Knee Augmentation, combining dynamic knee assistance with active support and load management across flat ground, stairs, climbs and descents.

One belt, different assistance

At the centre of the system is the Exo-Belt, which carries the battery, controller and algorithms. The hip and knee support shown at IFA was modular, with the company demonstrating how users could configure the platform around different movement needs. Ascentiz says H, K or both modules can be attached by hand through its MOLLE quick-release structure.

What we experienced at IFA

Ascentiz ran live demonstrations of the system on stairs and slopes. The available hip and knee assistance worked well in those demonstrations, helping with walking and climbing stairs. Once worn, the device was comfortable and its weight largely disappeared rather than dragging on the body.

We also asked about ankle support. An Ascentiz representative said that is not currently possible because of technology limitations. That is an important boundary for the platform: it can assist the hips and knees today, but it is not yet a complete solution for every part of the leg. We did not test running, cycling or other faster-paced movement because the IFA demonstration was limited to stairs and slopes.

The software underneath

Ascentiz says BodyOS is its common software and control foundation for the modular platform, with AZ-Lock handling the mechanical layer and CAN-FD handling electrical communication. The company says BodyOS was open-sourced in 2026 so the system can grow through software updates, new Ascentiz modules and hardware from the wider research and developer community.

Our opinion

The modular concept is the clever bit. Industrial users may need different assistance from someone looking for help on hills or stairs, and paying for only the support you need makes more sense than buying an oversized full-leg machine. Our IFA demo was limited, so this is not a verdict on running, cycling, battery life or long-term durability, but the walking and stair assistance worked well and the device was far more comfortable than its robotic appearance suggests. Ankle support is still outside the system’s current reach, yet Ascentiz has built a convincing foundation rather than another one-size-fits-all gadget.
