Google AI Plus will lose Gemini Pro access on November 13

Google AI Plus subscribers will lose manual access to Pro models in Gemini and AI Mode from 13 November, while Flash access remains.

Google is moving one of the most useful parts of its £5-a-month AI subscription behind a much more expensive tier. Google AI Plus subscribers will lose the ability to manually select Google's Pro models in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Google Search from 13 November 2026, according to a notification sent to customers and reported by Android Central. 1

What is changing

Google AI Plus currently costs $5 a month in the United States and includes 400GB of cloud storage, alongside access to Google's AI services. From 13 November, subscribers will still be able to use Gemini's Flash models, but they will no longer be able to choose the more capable Pro models directly in Gemini or AI Mode.

The change means anyone who relies on Pro models for more involved reasoning, research or complex prompts will need to move to Google AI Pro. That plan costs $20 a month in the US — four times the price of AI Plus — according to the customer notification reported by Android Central. 1

Google's own AI plans page describes AI Plus as offering access to Gemini and AI-powered tools, while the more expensive Pro tier includes broader access to Google's highest-end models and a larger 5TB storage allowance. The plan details and model availability can vary by country, so the American pricing is not a direct guide to every market. 2

What subscribers keep

This is not a complete shutdown of Gemini for AI Plus customers. Flash models remain available, and the subscription continues to include its storage allowance and other Google AI features. The practical difference is that users will lose control over which model handles a task if they stay on the cheaper plan.

That distinction matters because Google's model picker has become part of the appeal of paying for an AI subscription. Flash models are designed for speed and everyday use, while Pro models are positioned for harder questions and more demanding work. Removing manual Pro selection therefore changes the value of AI Plus even if the Gemini app itself remains accessible.

Google is also bundling more benefits into AI Pro, including additional storage and access to other Google services. Those extras may make the higher price easier to justify for people who already use Google's wider ecosystem, but they do not make the jump any less dramatic for someone who subscribed to AI Plus specifically for affordable access to stronger models. 2

Our opinion

Google AI Plus was attractive because it offered a relatively inexpensive route into the company's better AI tools. Taking away manual Pro access turns it into a more limited subscription rather than simply leaving it as a cheaper option. Google can reasonably reserve its most capable models for a premium tier, but changing the central reason some customers signed up gives those subscribers a fair reason to reassess the plan before November.

For now, AI Plus customers do not need to cancel immediately: the change is scheduled for 13 November, and Flash access will remain. But anyone who depends on Pro selection should compare the new $20 monthly cost with the work they actually do in Gemini before that date arrives.
