Gemini Notebook is now a Connected App in Gemini

Gemini Notebook is now a Connected App, letting users create, update and query notebooks directly from Gemini chats.

Gemini Notebook adds a solar farm market trends answer to a notebook from a Gemini chat

Google has added Gemini Notebook as a Connected App inside Gemini, allowing people to work with their notebooks without leaving a conversation. The integration is described in an official Google Workspace Updates announcement and is also available to personal Google account users, Workspace Individual subscribers and Workspace customers, according to the accompanying reporting.12

The practical change is that users can type @Gemini Notebook in a chat and ask Gemini to work with their notebooks. The available actions include creating, editing and deleting notebooks, adding or updating sources, saving notes and retrieving information from an existing notebook.1

Google says Gemini can also recognise when the Connected App is relevant and suggest using it automatically. Its examples include asking for a notebook about solar-farm market trends, adding a copy of a chat to a notebook about biology, listing notebooks and their sources, or answering a question using a notebook's existing context.1

That makes Gemini Notebook less of a separate destination and more of a workspace that can be called up from the assistant. The distinction matters: the feature is not simply a link back to NotebookLM's old interface. It lets the conversation itself become the place where users create, update and query the notebook.

Google's announcement says the Connected App is available now rather than waiting for a staged rollout. Availability can still depend on the account and the usual Gemini settings, so users who do not see the option should check that Connected Apps are enabled and that they are using the intended Google account.12

Our opinion

This is a useful, focused expansion for Gemini rather than another vague promise about an AI assistant. Notebook workflows are valuable precisely because they keep answers tied to a chosen set of sources, and bringing those actions into chat removes a layer of friction. The strongest part is the ability to save a conversation or update sources in context; the feature will be less compelling if account eligibility or privacy controls make that workflow unpredictable. Google has made the capability available, but its everyday value will depend on how reliably Gemini keeps notebook actions understandable and grounded in the material users selected.
