Chinese memory maker CXMT reportedly begins high-volume LPDDR6 production
CXMT says it has begun high-volume LPDDR6 manufacturing, potentially giving China a larger role in next-generation mobile memory.

Chinese memory maker CXMT has reportedly entered high-volume LPDDR6 production, a development that could reshape the mobile-memory race if customer shipments are confirmed. The company is positioning itself near the front of a new standard while South Korean memory manufacturers work towards similar volume timelines.
What’s actually going on
TechPowerUp reports that CXMT’s first LPDDR6 chips reach speeds of up to 12.8Gbps, with 16Gb capacity and package-on-package construction featuring roughly 1,295 pins. The report says Xiaomi may be the first customer, with the memory expected in the Xiaomi 18 Fold launching this month. A later update says CXMT’s official website confirmed mass production and listed Alibaba Cloud, ByteDance, Tencent, Lenovo, Transsion, Honor, Vivo and Oppo as customers. The report also says SK hynix is close to volume production, with modules running at up to 14.4Gbps. Shipment volumes and customer adoption remain unverified beyond these attributions.
Why you should care
Domestic advanced memory production would reduce Chinese manufacturers’ dependence on overseas suppliers and give phone makers more control over a crucial component. In a market where next-generation mobile memory is becoming a competitive bottleneck, customer adoption matters more than a launch-day speed figure.
Our opinion
If the production and customer claims hold up, this is a significant semiconductor story. The sensible next step is to wait for shipping devices and independent testing rather than treating “mass production” as proof that every listed customer is already buying large volumes.
