Apple sets iPhone Duo pre-order preparation deadline

Apple says iPhone Duo shoppers must complete the “Get Ready” process by 9 p.m. Pacific Time before pre-orders open on Friday.

Apple has set a 9 p.m. Pacific Time deadline on Thursday, October 15 for customers who want to complete the “Get Ready” process ahead of the iPhone Duo pre-order. The preparation step is available through Apple’s online store and the Apple Store app, and is designed to make checkout faster when pre-orders open. 12

Pre-orders open on Friday

Apple says iPhone Duo pre-orders begin at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, October 16. The foldable iPhone is scheduled to launch on Friday, October 23. Customers who complete the “Get Ready” process can save their device configuration and payment choices in advance, allowing them to complete the order with a single click when the pre-order window opens. 1

The deadline matters most for people aiming for launch-day delivery. Apple has not framed the process as a requirement to buy the device, but missing the cut-off means shoppers will need to complete their choices during the normal pre-order flow. Given the limited time between the deadline and the start of sales, anyone who has already decided on a model, storage option or payment route will want to finish the preparation before the window closes.

What Apple is selling

Apple describes iPhone Duo as a foldable design with the company’s largest iPhone display when opened. The inner screen is 50 per cent larger than the display on iPhone 18 Pro Max, while the closed phone has a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple also highlights a precision-engineered hinge, an A20 Pro chip, dual-battery architecture and an iOS experience that adapts as the device folds. 1

The phone includes a 48MP Fusion Main camera, a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera with macro capability, a 2x optical-quality Telephoto option and a 12MP Center Stage front camera. Apple says the design also supports Split View multitasking and StandBy on either display.

A narrow window for early buyers

The immediate news is less about another specification reveal and more about timing. Apple is giving prospective buyers a short final window to prepare an order before pre-orders go live. The process is available on Apple’s website and in the Apple Store app, with Apple also pointing shoppers towards trade-in, finance, carrier and AppleCare options. 1

The company says eligible iPhone trade-ins can provide between $175 and $885 in credit, while selected carrier offers can provide up to $1,200 towards iPhone Duo. Those offers are subject to eligibility, region and the relevant provider’s terms.

Our opinion

A saved checkout will not make a constrained launch supply disappear, but it removes one avoidable source of delay. Apple’s deadline is useful for anyone already committed to buying iPhone Duo, particularly if launch-day delivery matters. Everyone else should treat it as a convenience rather than pressure to make a rushed decision: the phone launches on October 23, and the preparation step does not replace the need to compare the device, its price and its foldable design with the alternatives.
