Apple says iPhone Duo will have launch-day store stock

Apple says iPhone Duo will be available in stores on launch day despite online delivery estimates slipping to January 2027.

Apple says iPhone Duo buyers who missed the launch-day online window may still find stock in physical stores when the company’s first foldable iPhone goes on sale on Friday, October 23. Apple senior vice-president of marketing Greg Joswiak told TechRadar that the company had not shipped every unit during pre-orders and expected stores to have devices available. 1

Online orders have already slipped

Pre-orders for iPhone Duo began on October 16. TechRadar reports that delivery estimates moved to January 2027 within minutes, regardless of the model’s colour, storage or carrier. That left customers facing a long wait even before the phone’s official US launch. 1

Joswiak’s comments suggest that online delivery dates do not tell the whole story. He said Apple would have iPhone Duo units available in stores and expected happy customers at the company’s Fifth Avenue location in New York. Apple had previously said walk-in supply would be limited, so the comments are best understood as a reminder that launch-day availability is separate from the online queue rather than a guarantee that every store will have unlimited stock. 1

Apple’s own product announcement confirms that iPhone Duo becomes available on October 23. The foldable phone has a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display, with the A20 Pro chip, a dual-battery design and a titanium frame. Apple positions the device as a pocketable phone that expands into a larger screen for viewing, gaming and multitasking. 2

The official iPhone Duo page also lists its launch date and describes the device’s foldable display, 48MP Dual Fusion camera system and redesigned iOS experiences. Those first-party details establish what Apple is selling; the information about launch-day store stock comes from Joswiak’s remarks as reported by TechRadar. 12

What prospective buyers should know

The strongest practical takeaway is that a customer who sees a January online estimate may still have another option: checking local Apple Store availability or attempting an in-store purchase on launch day. Stock will vary by location, colour, storage and carrier, and Apple’s earlier warning about limited walk-in supply still applies. Buyers should check Apple’s own store tools rather than assume that a store visit will guarantee a device. 1

Apple’s launch also arrives alongside a growing set of iPhone Duo applications. TechRadar highlights an MLB app update designed for the foldable screen, with a broadcast view and score information arranged across the larger display. That is an example of the kind of software adaptation Apple is using to justify the new form factor, although it is separate from the question of how many phones are available at launch. 12

Our opinion

Apple’s store-stock message is useful, but it is not a reason to treat the January online estimate as irrelevant. It gives determined early buyers one more route, while the limited-supply warning means turning up without checking first could still end in a wasted journey. The more interesting signal is the gap between online demand and physical stock: Apple appears to be protecting a launch-day retail moment even as digital orders move deep into the next year.
