AMD prices Ryzen 5 7500 at $189 and Ryzen 5 5500F at $99
AMD’s two new six-core desktop chips target different upgrade paths: the Ryzen 5 7500 for AM5 and the Ryzen 5 5500F for the still-lively AM4 platform.
AMD has confirmed US pricing for two budget desktop processors. TechPowerUp reports that the Ryzen 5 7500 will retail for $189, while the Ryzen 5 5500F will cost $99 based on official suggested end pricing shared with retailers.1
The Ryzen 5 7500 is a six-core, 12-thread Zen 4 processor for Socket AM5. TechPowerUp lists a 3.7GHz base clock, boosts of up to 5.0GHz, a 65W default TDP and a small RDNA 2 integrated GPU with two compute units.1
The Ryzen 5 5500F keeps AMD’s older AM4 platform alive. It is also a six-core, 12-thread chip, but uses Zen 3 “Vermeer” silicon, with clocks from 3.0GHz to 4.4GHz and 16MB of L3 cache, according to the same report.1 Guru3D describes the two processors as additions to AMD’s official catalogue, appearing almost ten years after AM4 was introduced.2
That makes the pair less of a direct contest than a choice between platform costs. The 7500 offers a newer upgrade route and integrated graphics, while the 5500F is aimed at builders who already have compatible AM4 hardware or want the lowest entry price. The reported US figures are not UK street prices, and no UK pricing is established by the sources checked here.
Our opinion
The $99 5500F could be a sensible rescue part for an existing AM4 system, while the $189 7500 makes more sense for a new AM5 build that has room to grow. Just do not mistake “budget” for “cheap platform”: motherboard and memory costs may matter more than the processor badge.
