Acer’s new gaming handheld turns into a tiny laptop with a built-in keyboard

Acer is using its IFA 2026 hardware push to make gaming handhelds look a little more like pocketable PCs. The new Predator Atlas 7 is a Windows 11 handheld with flagship ambitions, while the Project DualPlay Mini concept adds a physical keyboard to the formula.

The Atlas 7 is the actual product announcement. The DualPlay Mini is not: Acer describes it as a concept, with no confirmed retail price, final specifications or release date.

What's actually going on

The Predator Atlas 7 has a 7-inch 1,920 × 1,080 touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate, variable refresh rate and brightness up to 500 nits. Acer lists up to an Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor, Intel Arc B390 graphics, 24GB of LPDDR5x memory and 1TB of PCIe Gen4 NVMe storage.

The handheld has an 80Wh battery, two fans including an 89-blade metal Predator AeroBlade fan, dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, Hall-effect triggers and optional TMR joysticks.

Acer plans to make the Atlas 7 available in North America during Q4 2026 and in EMEA from November 2026. Pricing and exact regional configurations were not announced.

Alongside it, Acer showed Project DualPlay Mini, an 8-inch concept device with a flip-and-swivel design and a built-in backlit keyboard. It is best understood as a design experiment, not a product waiting for a launch date.

Why you should care

Handheld gaming PCs are increasingly being asked to do double duty. People want console-like controls for games, but they also want a device that can handle a quick email or document without forcing them to carry a separate laptop.

A physical keyboard could make that compromise less awkward, although adding hinges and moving parts brings its own questions about weight, durability, thermals and price. Acer has not answered those questions for the DualPlay Mini because it has not promised to sell the thing.

Our opinion

The Atlas 7 looks like a serious attempt to push handheld PC hardware forward, while the DualPlay Mini is the IFA show-floor dream: clever, slightly ridiculous and possibly destined never to leave the concept table.

We are more interested in the Atlas 7, but the missing price is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Acer needs to prove that this is a genuinely useful handheld rather than a compact specification contest. The keyboard concept can wait; first, give us a price and a battery test.
