vivo X500 Ultra camera rumour points to a smaller main sensor

A new IMEI listing hints that vivo may be preparing the rumoured X500 Ultra for markets beyond China, while its camera remains unconfirmed.

The vivo X500 Ultra remains unannounced, but a new report adds two clues to the rumoured phone: an apparent global-market IMEI listing and a fresh leak about its 35mm-equivalent main camera. Notebookcheck says model V2660 has appeared in the GSMA's IMEI database, while a separate Jovi-branded model number, J2613, is reportedly intended for Latin America. Neither entry is a launch confirmation from vivo. 12

The possible international listing is the genuinely new part of this update. Earlier coverage focused on the X500 Ultra's camera hardware and a possible China launch; the latest report suggests vivo may be considering markets beyond China as well. That remains a possibility, not a promise of European or Brazilian availability. 13

The latest camera claims

Digital Chat Station is reported to have repeated a 35mm-equivalent focal length for the main camera. The same report links the engineering sample to a Sony LYT910 sensor and says the telephoto camera could use a larger 1/1.12-inch sensor. These are leak-derived specifications, and the hardware may change before any mass-production model appears. 14

The camera claims also need to be read alongside the earlier rumour that the main sensor could be smaller than the one used by the vivo X300 Ultra. A smaller sensor on paper would not automatically decide image quality: lens design, stabilisation, processing, autofocus and final tuning will all matter. 34

What the listing does — and does not — prove

An IMEI entry is evidence that a model number exists in a regulatory database. It does not prove that a phone will launch under the rumoured name, reach every market where the number appears, or use the specifications currently circulating. vivo's official X500 material confirms the ordinary X500 family, but it does not confirm an X500 Ultra. 5

That distinction matters because the current reports combine several uncertain layers: an unannounced product, an alleged global variant, a possible Jovi regional brand and prototype camera hardware. Readers should treat the X500 Ultra as a developing rumour rather than a product that can be bought or compared with confidence.

Our opinion

This is a more meaningful development than another recycled camera specification because a global-market listing would change who can reasonably care about the X500 Ultra. It still falls well short of a launch announcement, though. The sensible headline is that vivo may be preparing a wider rollout; the irresponsible one would turn an IMEI record and an engineering rumour into a finished phone. Until vivo confirms the model, markets and hardware, keep this firmly in the rumour column. 125
