Unitree says its G1 humanoid can spar using a real-time world model
Unitree has demonstrated its G1 humanoid sparring with a trainer, with the company’s UnifoLM-X2-1.0 world model reportedly directing the behaviour without teleoperation.

A humanoid robot sparring without a human quietly driving every movement is a more interesting robotics demo than another perfectly choreographed warehouse dance. Unitree’s G1 demonstration is presented as a step towards models that understand physical states and choose actions in real time.
What is being reported
Pandaily reports that the G1 sparred with a trainer using UnifoLM-X2-1.0, described as a world-action model, and that the demonstration took place without teleoperation. Unitree’s product page confirms the G1 platform, but it does not independently establish the specific sparring video or the claimed level of autonomy.
That caveat is doing important work. A staged demonstration can show that a system handled one carefully selected scenario; it does not prove general-purpose autonomous combat, safe operation around the public or reliable performance when the floor, opponent and instructions change. The model’s availability, compute requirements, fallback controls and safety limits also remain unverified.
There is still a meaningful idea here. Robots that predict what is about to happen rather than merely replaying a movement sequence could be more adaptable. They could also make spectacularly bad decisions at human height, which is why the safety engineering matters at least as much as the punchy video.
Our opinion
Unitree has earned attention, not a victory lap. The G1 demo suggests a more flexible approach to physical AI, but readers should judge the system on repeatable tests, transparent intervention logs and safe failure behaviour rather than one impressive bout. For now, this is a promising robotics demonstration with boxing gloves on — not proof that the robot has mastered the world.
