REDMAGIC 12 Pro+ launches with 185Hz display and RGB cooling

The REDMAGIC 12 Pro+ pairs an 185Hz display with visible RGB liquid cooling, while the global REDMAGIC 12 Pro launch is set for 3 November.

REDMAGIC has unveiled the 12 Pro+ gaming phone in China, pairing a 185Hz under-display screen with an RGB liquid-cooling system and a large 8,400mAh battery. The company says the handset will launch globally as the REDMAGIC 12 Pro, with international specifications, pricing and availability due on 3 November.12

A gaming phone built around cooling

The 12 Pro+ uses a 6.85-inch 1216-by-2688 AMOLED display with up to 5,000 nits peak brightness. It hides a 16MP selfie camera beneath the panel and uses a 0.96mm bezel, while REDMAGIC says its display can reach 185Hz in supported scenarios.1 GSMArena reports that the phone also includes the company’s RedCore R5 gaming chip, which handles ray tracing, 2K upscaling and frame interpolation.2

The headline hardware change is the cooling system. A dual-loop liquid design surrounds the processor and battery, with a micro-pump, fan, graphene materials, a vapour chamber and liquid metal forming what REDMAGIC calls a five-layer thermal system. The RGB lighting is built into the circular cooling module on the back and can react to activity in supported games.2

The phone also includes up to 16GB of LPDDR5T memory, 1TB of UFS 4.1 Pro storage, 120W wired charging and 80W wireless charging. Other features include IP68/IP69 protection, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, a headphone jack, 700Hz shoulder triggers and a PC emulator that can access a Steam library, although compatibility varies by game.2

Chinese pricing and global timing

Chinese pricing starts at CNY 6,999 for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The 16GB/512GB version costs CNY 7,999, while the 16GB/1TB model costs CNY 8,999. A 24GB/1TB forged-carbon Golden Saga edition is also planned, with further details still to come.2

REDMAGIC’s official global page confirms the REDMAGIC 12 Pro name and a 3 November launch event, but it does not yet list the international price or a complete global specification sheet.1 Those details matter because the global model may not mirror the China-only 12 Pro+ in every respect.

Our opinion

REDMAGIC is making the cooling system the story rather than treating it as invisible engineering. That is sensible for a gaming phone: sustained performance is more meaningful than a short benchmark burst, and the visible RGB module gives the thermal hardware an unmistakable identity. The caveat is that 185Hz support, frame interpolation and PC-emulator compatibility will depend on software and individual games. Until the global launch fills in those gaps, this is an intriguing specification reveal rather than a finished buying recommendation.12
