Polaroid turns Pokémon into nine colourful instant-camera editions

Polaroid is turning Pokémon nostalgia into something you can hold, shake and inevitably wave around while waiting for the picture to develop. The instant-photography brand has announced a nine-piece Pokémon collection spanning cameras, themed film and accessories.

The limited-edition range is planned to launch globally in restricted quantities. Pre-orders opened on 25 August 2026 through polaroid.com, with the full release scheduled for 5 October.

What's actually going on

The collection includes three cameras: the Polaroid Now Generation 3 Pokémon Edition for US$139.99 (about €139.99 / £129.99), plus Pikachu and Sylveon versions of the Polaroid Go Generation 3, each priced at US$99.99 (about €99.99 / £89.99).

The film range includes Polaroid Color i-Type Film – Pokémon Edition at US$22.99 (about €21.99 / £21.99), alongside Pikachu and Sylveon double packs for the Polaroid Go. Each double pack costs US$24.99 (about €22.99 / £21.99), according to Polaroid’s newsroom listing.

The final three pieces are a Pokémon camera case and photo album, each priced at US$24.99 (about €24.99), plus a Pokémon camera strap compatible with both cameras for US$14.99 (about €14.99). The listed prices vary by region, and the announcement does not provide a UK price for every accessory.

The cameras use Pokémon-inspired designs, while the film features custom frames and dark slides. The collection is intended to make instant photography feel more tactile and collectible, with Pokémon’s colourful cast doing most of the heavy lifting.

Polaroid says the collection will be available globally through polaroid.com in limited quantities. It will also be sold through Pokémon Center in the US, UK and Canada.

Why you should care

Instant cameras are already halfway between a gadget and a souvenir, so Pokémon is a natural fit. The photograph is not just an image on a phone; it is a small physical object with a themed border, a finite number of shots and the mild panic of discovering you photographed the floor.

The range also gives fans several entry points. The Now Gen 3 is the larger standard camera, while the Go models are smaller and more portable. Themed film and accessories let existing Polaroid owners join the collaboration without buying another camera.

The limited-quantity launch is the important caveat. Collectible collaborations can disappear quickly, and the announcement does not promise that every item will remain available through the full release window or that every territory will receive identical stock.

These are special-edition designs rather than a new camera platform. Buyers should therefore compare the standard Now and Go Generation 3 prices before paying extra for Pikachu, Sylveon or a particularly determined Poké Ball aesthetic.

Our opinion

This is a charming collaboration because it understands what both brands sell: not just hardware, but the feeling of owning a little piece of a much bigger world. Pokémon brings the emotional attachment; Polaroid brings the satisfying clunk of a picture becoming real.

The prices are not outrageous for licensed special editions, although the film and accessories can turn a cute camera into a surprisingly enthusiastic checkout total. The limited stock also means collectors will need to decide quickly, while ordinary photographers should resist paying a premium for a colourway they do not actually love.

If you already shoot instant film, the themed packs and smaller Go models are the sensible way in. If you are buying your first instant camera, compare the regular range first — then let Pikachu talk you into the upgrade if your wallet is feeling brave.
