Mistral has raised €3 billion in Series D funding at a post-money valuation above €21 billion, led by Samsung Electronics, in what it calls the largest equity round ever completed by a European technology company.

Mistral says its €3 billion Series D values the company at more than €21 billion post-money, three years after launch. Samsung Electronics led the round, with Scaleup Europe Fund (managed by EQT) and existing investor PSG Equity as co-leads.

The company says the funding will expand frontier research, scale compute capacity for training, and accelerate commercial growth and its international footprint. Mistral says it now operates across 20 countries and supports more than 125 global enterprises, including Airbus, ASML and HSBC.

The sovereign pitch

Mistral frames the raise around demand for AI that combines performance with control over infrastructure and the intelligence loop, as enterprises and governments weigh long-term technology dependencies, data governance and deployment choices. The company positions its full-stack, open-weight approach as the alternative to lock-in on a single vendor’s roadmap, pricing or availability.

The “largest equity fundraising round ever completed by a European technology company” is Mistral’s own claim, and the precise use of funds beyond the stated priorities has not been independently detailed.

Our opinion

Europe has spent years complaining that it builds research rather than champions; a €3 billion round at a €21 billion valuation is the strongest counter-argument yet. Sovereign AI is more than a slogan when customers like Airbus and HSBC are already in the door. The open question is execution: frontier research burns capital at a ferocious rate, and Mistral now has to prove that independence is a strategy rather than a niche.
