Huawei’s third trifold phone folds inward, adds an optional privacy display and launches in China from ¥19,999.
Huawei has launched its third trifold phone in China, borrowing Samsung’s inward-folding design and side-angle privacy-display idea. The Mate XT 2 is ambitious hardware, but its price and China-only status make it a luxury statement for now.
What’s actually going on
The Verge reports a 10.2-inch inward-folding display, an optional privacy OLED available with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, a Kirin 9050 Pro chip, IP59 water resistance and triple rear cameras. Pricing starts at ¥19,999, roughly US$3,000, while Android Authority reports a slimmer design, HarmonyOS 7 and Huawei performance claims that remain unverified. International availability is unknown.
Why you should care
Inward folding protects the flexible panel far better than the original exposed accordion design. The privacy mode is useful for a giant phone-tablet hybrid, although locking it to the most expensive configuration makes it feel like a luxury surcharge.
Our opinion
This is impressive engineering, but at US$3,000 it is a technology showcase rather than a sensible recommendation. Watch it; do not rush to import it.
