Elgato Wave Go brings clip-on and handheld audio for $99.99

Elgato’s first wireless microphone switches between clip-on and handheld recording, with eight-hour battery life and a $99.99 price.

Elgato Wave Go wireless microphone system in its open charging case

Elgato has launched the Wave Go, its first wireless microphone system, with a convertible design that works as either a clip-on transmitter or a handheld microphone. 12

One microphone, two recording modes

The Wave Go’s small transmitter can attach magnetically to clothing, while a Smart Handle turns it into a full-sized handheld microphone for interviews and other close-up recording. A USB-C receiver connects the system to a phone, with pass-through charging so the phone can keep recording while the receiver recharges. 12

Elgato says the transmitter can run for up to eight hours on a charge. The Smart Handle can hold up to five full recharges, giving the system a claimed maximum of 48 hours before it needs a charger. The carrying case can recharge the components, too. 1

The microphone includes noise cancellation, Auto Gain and automatic EQ Shift, while Elgato’s Wave Link software adds routing, effects, Stream Deck controls and Voice Focus for reducing room reverb and background noise. 12

Price and availability

The Wave Go costs $99.99 and is available through Elgato in 40 countries and regions, with other retailers expected to follow. A second transmitter costs $29.99 on its own or $14.99 when bought with the microphone. Elgato is also offering a Sky Blue version for a limited time. 1

Our opinion

The Wave Go’s strongest idea is its flexibility: the same kit covers a quick clip-on recording and a more formal handheld interview without demanding a separate microphone. The eight-hour transmitter claim is sensible for a working day, while the Smart Handle and case add useful endurance rather than gimmicky extras. The real test will be sound quality and noise cancellation in ordinary rooms, but Elgato has at least built a clear answer to the “which microphone should I pack?” problem.
