CMF by Nothing launches its first portable speakers
CMF by Nothing’s first portable speakers pair colourful, customisable designs with Bluetooth 6.0 and up to 18 hours of playback.
CMF by Nothing has launched its first portable speakers, the Speaker S and Speaker M, with prices starting at $59 / £49 for the smaller model and $109 / £99 for the larger one.1
What we know
The two speakers share Bluetooth 6.0, dual-device connections and several playback modes. CMF says the Speaker S uses a custom-tuned 45mm driver and two passive radiators, while the larger Speaker M is aimed at filling a room and covers a 60Hz–20kHz frequency range.1
Both models are rated for up to 18 hours of playback at 50% volume with Ultra Bass enabled. A 10-minute fast charge is said to provide another hour of listening, and the Bluetooth connection is rated for more than 100 metres in suitable conditions.1
CMF is also leaning into customisation. The front panels can be removed and swapped for another colour, while the company is encouraging owners to 3D-print replacement panels and volume knobs. Stereo Mode can pair two matching speakers, and Party Mode can combine both sizes, including compatible speakers from other brands, according to TechRadar’s report.1
Our opinion
The removable panels are the more interesting idea here. Bluetooth speakers rarely offer much physical customisation beyond colour choices, so giving owners a route to 3D-print their own panels could make CMF’s affordable models feel more personal than a typical plastic puck. The real test will be whether the sound quality and software are as flexible as the industrial design.1
