Citizen puts Mickey Mouse on a football-themed Eco-Drive watch

Citizen’s Touchdown Mickey AW1739-02W combines an olive-green football-themed dial with the company’s light-powered Eco-Drive movement.

Citizen Touchdown Mickey AW1739-02W watch with Mickey Mouse playing football on the olive-green dial

Citizen has put Mickey Mouse on the gridiron for its latest Disney collaboration: the Touchdown Mickey AW1739-02W, a new Eco-Drive watch with an olive-green dial and football-themed details. Citizen’s Canadian product page lists the watch at CA$495, while Notebookcheck reports a US price of $395 and availability through Zales. 12

The dial is the main event. Mickey is shown running with a football, wearing a red helmet and matching kit, while the usual hour markers are replaced with oversized Xs and Os. Curved arrows echo the tactics drawn on a coach’s playbook, and the outer ring marks the 50-yard lines for each team. The watch is unmistakably a novelty Disney piece, but the design is more coherent than simply printing a character on an otherwise ordinary face.

The details

Citizen lists a 44.3mm stainless-steel case with black ion plating, a black leather strap and a domed mineral crystal. The watch is rated for 100-metre water resistance, with a three-hand display and date window. Its J810 Eco-Drive movement is powered by natural or artificial light, so it does not need routine battery replacements. 1

The hands and the Xs, Os and arrows are also designed to glow, giving the football-playbook motif a second life in darker conditions. The dial artwork is credited to Disney artists John and Shelley Loter, according to Citizen’s description. 1

Availability

The AW1739-02W is already listed on Citizen’s Canadian online store for CA$495. Notebookcheck says the US version is priced at $395 and can be bought through Zales, although the model was not listed on Citizen’s US website when the report was published. That regional split matters: availability and pricing may differ depending on where you live. 12

Our opinion

This is a playful product announcement rather than a technical breakthrough, but the concept lands because Citizen has carried the football theme through the whole dial instead of stopping at a character graphic. The watch is large and deliberately loud, so it will not be for everyone; collectors and Disney fans are the obvious audience. The useful part of the story is the concrete product information: the model number, Eco-Drive movement, 100-metre rating and regional pricing give interested buyers something more solid than a social-media tease.
