Apple HomeView, HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K details leak
A new report claims Apple will unveil its HomeView smart-home hub, a refreshed HomePod mini and an updated Apple TV 4K this week.
Apple’s next smart-home push could be considerably broader than a single new hub. A fresh report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, summarised by MacRumors, claims Apple will unveil HomeView, a refreshed HomePod mini and a new Apple TV 4K at its 13 October event.1
HomeView is the headline product
The reported smart-home hub will use a touch-enabled display and an A18 chip, with Siri AI handling voice control. Gurman says Apple is considering both a tabletop model with a metal speaker base and a wall-mounted version with a flat, square plate. The tabletop version is expected to offer better sound than the current HomePod mini.
The reported colour range is split between the two designs: Gray, Silver, Starlight and Rose for the tabletop model, and Gray and Silver for the wall-mounted version. HomeView is reportedly due to be shown on 13 October, but may not launch until around mid-November. It is also said to run Apple apps without offering an App Store for third-party software.1
Apple is apparently planning an accompanying Home Collection, with partner-made accessories including a smart doorbell, deadbolt, thermostat, temperature sensor, security cameras and a floodlight camera. LG’s accessories may arrive later than the hub itself.
HomePod mini and Apple TV updates
The next HomePod mini is expected to move from the current S5 chip to the S10 used in Apple Watch Series 10. The report also names green, pink, blue, white and midnight finishes.
Apple’s new Apple TV 4K may use an A19 chip, and could add microphones for Siri AI. A revised Siri Remote with a built-in speaker is also reportedly in development, making the remote easier to find. MacRumors says the refreshed HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K are expected to be unveiled on 13 October and launch on 30 October.1
These details remain leaks rather than Apple specifications. Apple’s official event page confirms its event programme, but the company has not yet announced the products or features described in the report.2
Our opinion
The interesting part of this leak is not any single chip or colour. HomeView would give Apple a central piece of smart-home hardware at a time when the company’s approach has largely been spread across speakers, phones, TVs and third-party accessories. Until Apple takes the stage, though, HomeView’s name, design, price and release timing should all be treated as unconfirmed.
